ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Winnipeg Film Group’s Mosaic Film Fund is a production support and film mentorship program to support Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) women and non-binary, trans and Two-Spirit woman-identifying people to produce a first or second independent short film or video.
Mosaic was founded by Winnipeg Film Group’s former Executive Director, Cecilia Araneda in an effort to support diverse talent in our local filmmaking community.
There is ONE award available.
This award includes:
- $2,000 to support living expenses over a 6 month production period
- $3,500 in cash to be used for production and post-production
- $2,000 in services from the Winnipeg Film Group (workshops/training, equipment, cameras, studio rental, etc.)
- General Membership with Production Add On for one year
- 1 experienced woman filmmaker as project mentor for one-on-one mentorship
- A screening of their finished project at the Cinematheque and online on Cinematheque at Home
- *Up to $1,000 for access support such as child care (if applying as a primary caregiver), ASL interpretation, etc.
This program supports filmmakers who intend to work in narrative, experimental or documentary, or hybrid/cross-genre work on film or video. The award funding and timeframe would ideally support a short project- 3-5 minutes in length.
PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
- Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) women and non-binary, trans and Two-Spirit woman-identifying people
- Over 18 years of age
- Manitoba resident for at least six months prior to the application deadline
- A beginner filmmaker with little or no previous film or video work
- The independent work must not be a student project, assignment or activity issued by a teacher or professor from a University, College or other preparatory related school
*For the purposes of this program, Indigenous peoples include Status, Non-Status, Métis and Inuit people; ‘diverse cultural background’ refers to persons of African, Asian, Latin American or Middle Eastern origin.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications should be submitted through our online submissions platform (submissions now closed), with the following documents:
- A letter of intent, describing the proposed film or video concept (up to 2 pages max.)
- A paragraph describing how this project will contribute to your artistic aspirations (1 or 2 paragraphs)
- Applicant’s resume (up to 3 pages max.)
- Letter of recommendation from someone who supports your film project (up to 750 words max.)
- Schedule of Major Activities (1 page max)
- Proposed Budget (1 page max)
