Class overview:
I’ve spent over a decade working as a writer in television and film, it’s time to share what I know and help you workshop your screenplay/synopsis/story and share your work for constructive feedback. We’ll work together to bring out your unique voice and uncover the best way to get a reader to respond to your words on the page. – Chris Charney
About the instructor:
Chris Charney is a writer and showrunner whose television projects have aired around the world. He has created kids shows, medical shows, and food series for Canadian and international broadcasters and developed content with major networks. He also works as a story editor for feature films. His film Wild Cherry has been viewed and downloaded illegally a lot and has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of “not very fresh”. Chris nearly won a Canadian Comedy Award for writing it, but didn’t.. He continues to help create shows for Winnipeg’s Farpoint Films, even daring to write feature films and original tv pilots.
Class 1 – March 7, 2019 | 7pm – 10pm
Writing for an audience: fiction and non fiction. The idea. The pilot. The execution, the follow through. How to plan your project from word one to page one. We’ll take real examples from the class and flesh the out in the planning stage, detailing how to start a great idea.

Class 2 – March 14, 2019 | 7pm – 10pm
Character development, narration, dialogue and voice. How to write it, developing a point of view. Workshopping your scripts, we’ll uncover character development, how to effectively plot it out in your screenplay.

Class 3 – March 21, 2019 | 7pm – 10pm
Plot. What happens when all you have is a beginning and end. Using examples in the group, we will examine format and why it’s important to think about format while writing.

Class 4 – March 28, 2019 | 7pm – 10pm
Finishing. ABC for writers… how to close, follow through, finishing a script. What now? How to stay motivated, being the driving force behind why something gets made. Together we’ll create a plan on how to get your screenplay into the right hands. We’ll workshop our pitching skills, each person bringing with them how to talk about the story they’ve spent so much time developing and writing.
