Making his feature debut at Cannes at the astonishing age of 20 with I Killed My Mother, director Xavier Dolan is now the leading director of the Québec new wave. His recent feature at Cannes (Mommy) shared the Jury Prize with Jean Luc Godard. This film, influenced by Alfred Hitchcock is a suspense thriller in which Tom (played by Dolan) goes to the countryside for the funeral of his boyfriend only to become embroiled in the family relationship dynamics of his partner’s mother and son (Frances). After the funeral is over it becomes clear that the Frances doesn’t want Tom to leave which soon leads to a tense drama.
