This is a 4 day course for those interested in the art of sound recording and the process of sound editing for music/film and composition.
Sound Capture: This is a two day workshop for those interested in learning more about the art of sound recording. The course will discuss the basics of field recording and approaches to working with sound in different environments and will also touch on the roles of sound recording techniques for film & music. Participants of the workshop will gain the entry level knowledge of sound recording which they will be able to apply to capturing better sound within their own projects. (below is a syllabus of what will be covered during the workshop)
Day 1: Introduction to Sound Recording

Understanding the Sound Recording Equipment
• a basic field recording kit vs. a production recording kit
• location sound vs. the studio environment

Sound Editing: This is a two day workshop for those interested in learning more about the process of sound editing for music/film and composition. The course will discuss the basics of sound editing and approaches to working with sound before the mixing stage. Participants of the workshop will gain the knowledge of basic sound editing and the role of the editing processes which they will be able to apply to their own projects with the intent of improving creativity & quality. Instructor Bio: Joel Mierau is a sound artist and freelance sound engineer. Over the past 9 years living in Winnipeg, they have worked as a sound recordist, editor, boom operator & mixer taking on numerous roles on projects within the art community & the music/film industry. They are also the Technical Co-ordinator and Sound Recordist for the annual send+receive festival and an instructor/board member of Video Pool Media Arts Centre.
