This classic documentary from Agnès Varda is an intimate portrait of the small shops and shopkeepers of the Rue Daguerre in Paris, a picturesque street that was the filmmaker’s home for more than 50 years.
The late Agnés Varda (1928-2019) made over 50 films in an incredible life that saw her help spark the revolution of the French Nouvelle Vague in the 1950s and continue to inspire artists for decades through her form-bending documentary and narrative films, right up to her final months with the release of her last: Varda by Agnés. With this series of 4 films by Agnés – 3 new restorations of her classic films and her last – completed just before her death – we honour her singular voice in cinema.
Agnés Varda: Life is Cinema is presented in partnership with Cinémental, Alliance Française du Manitoba and the French Embassy of Canada. Restoration Tuesdays: our new ongoing series of newly restored films is generously sponsored by IATSE 856. All admissions to these screenings is $5.
