This in-person workshop is limited to 10 participants. While masks are no longer required
in indoor public spaces in Manitoba, individuals are recommended to wear a mask in our
Production Centre.
In this workshop participants will learn how to perform the duties of the on-set dresser, how to preserve and represent the vision of the art department on screen, build a personal tool kit, interpret a script & call sheet, interact with other departments and how to dress a scene to camera. The first half of the day will be spent on lecture and kit review, and the second practical hands-on dressing. By the end of the workshop, you will have the necessary skills and knowledge to work as an on-set dresser in film productions. If you’re just starting out in the film industry or just joining the art department, this workshop is the perfect place to start.

– How to interpret a script and prepare yourself for the day
– How to interpret the call sheet and prepare yourself for the day
– How to interpret lens size and its relation to the set dressing
– How to work with the art director, director, director of photography and props on set
– How to build your on-set kit.

Morgan Traa is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Traa received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from the University of Manitoba and a Diploma in
Broadcasting from the Academy of Broadcasting Radio & Television in Winnipeg.
Morgan’s artwork has been exhibited in a variety of solo and group exhibitions, including the Manitoba Society of Artists, the University of Manitoba Student Gallery, the St. Norbert Art Center, the Graffiti Gallery, Miami Web Fest, Rome Web Fest and the Candian International Film Festival. Traa is a recipient of numerous awards, including the University of Manitoba’s Emerging Leader Award, the Rising Star Award & Royal Reel Award at the Canadian International Film Festival, and the Best Romantic Comedy Award at the Miami Web Fest.
In addition to her art practice, Morgan has a wealth of experience in the film industry as a
motion picture technician, working as an on-set dresser, assistant props master as well as
assistant to director and producer. Having worked on productions such as Burden of Truth, Tales from the Loop, The Grudge, La Mode Gabrielle Roy, El Toro and numerous Hallmark productions. Morgan’s current focus is on her work as an on-set dresser as a member of IATSE 856 and her practice as a painter.
