Legendary cinematographer Roy H. Wagner (ASC) is in town shooting the upcoming feature film “Strike”. Roy will be taking time out of his short stay in Winnipeg to teach a creative Master Class on Cinematography, provide his take on how to make it in the film industry, and discuss how the Blackmagic Camera differs from different cameras he has used in the past and why he chose to shoot “Strike” with the Blackmagic. Join us on Sunday, September 16 in the WFG Black Lodge Studio for this special Master Class!
ADDITIONALLY, BLACKMAGIC IS IN TOWN! For all you camera junkies and cinematographer geeks, special guests Jody Eldred, the on site rep from Blackmagic,will also provide a hands-on demo on the new Blackmagic mini pro, and will talk about all the benefits and high standards of this new camera as well as its workflow. Cinematographer/ Steadicam Operator Cliff Hokanson, (former WFG member) who has been living and working in Vancouver, will provide a hands-on Gimble vs Steadicam talk, and Cliff will be featuring the new Steadicam Volt. On top of that, the instructors will be demoing Cinegear’s Wireless HD SDI / HDMI Video transmission system Ghost Eye 600M (Hi-powered wireless video transmitter).

ROY H. WAGNER ASC is a two-time Emmy-winning cinematographer known for dramatic, dark imagery. Roy is a legendary cinematographer who has done cinematography for films like Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), Pray for Death (1985) and tv shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000) and Ray Donovan (2016). Named by Kodak as one of the “Top 100 Directors of Photography in the World” Wagner’s career has spanned 35 years in the motion picture and television industries. He has also received the ASC Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for a Miniseries. Wagner is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the American Society of Cinematographers and has won the Producers Guild “Vision Award”.

Cliff Hokanson, Steadicam Operator/Cinematographer, on the set of “Strike”
CLIFF HOKANSON is a passionate film industry professional with over 20 years of experience. Cliff Hokanson has had a successful career as a Camera/Steadicam operator in feature films and television. Cliff is well known for his ‘quick execution’ and his creative skills with camera movement. He is multi-skilled in many facets of film but dedicates most of the year to Steadicam and A/B Camera operating. In addition to this, Cliff is very knowledgeable with the technical aspects of everything from lighting to post-production. As a Director of Photography / Camera Operator Cliff is well versed and has been involved in everything from the production of feature and independent films, movie of the week, documentaries, commercials and countless music videos. Though Cliff lives and works primarily out of Vancouver, B.C., these projects have taken him to locations as far off as Russia. The Cinematographer is known for his phenomenal lighting of actor’s faces.
Cliff is currently working as the A camera operator on the new film “Strike!”, being shot here in Winnipeg. Hokanson got his start at the Winnipeg Film Group and for the past 20 years has worked as a cinematographer and Steady Cam operator in Vancouver. Cliff will show you the difference between the Steadycam & the Gimble.
