Join us for an afternoon of conversation with Ellen Kuras, called by Filmmaker magazine as “one of the most talented directors of photography working today.”
The award-winning cinematographer whose vision has solidified her status as one of the industry’s most sought after directors of photography, will visit the Winnipeg Film Group on Saturday March 10. One of only 5 women in the American Society of Cinematographers Kuras will share her story of what it is to be a cinematographer, how she gets into the head and the mind’s eye of the director, while using her craft to enhance the story.
As brilliantly precise as the images she captures with the camera, Kuras’ list of film credits include Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, He Got Game, Summer of Sam, I Shot Andy Warhol, No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, and Away We Go. She has worked with numerous acclaimed directors, including Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, Michael Gondry, and Jim Jarmusch. Most recently, her documentary The Betrayal – Nerakhoon, which she co-directed, was nominated for an Academy Award.
