The class will conclude with a sketch comedy showcase at the WFG Cinematheque in June on a date TBD. The class will allow the workshop students to hone their sketch comedy craft and then perform their sketches in front of a live audience hosted by Kevin McDonald!
Workshop Info:
The students will be working from scratch. Kevin will get the students to come up with premises and turn them into written sketches. The class will then spend classes rehearsing these sketches and then will ultimately perform that at the showcase.
Class 1: May 8, 2018: Kevin will provide a lecture about writing sketch comedy and how to take premises and turn them into sketches. Kevin will give the class a few example sketch premises and together the class would write an outline for those sketches. At the end of the class, Kevin will give out homework to the students – to come up with three premises each, for comedy sketches.
Class 2: May 15, 2018: The class presents the sketch premises to Kevin. Kevin then will choose 1 premise for each student. Then the students and Kevin would give notes for each premise on how to write them into sketches. The class homework for the week – write the sketches out of their chosen premise.
Class 3: May 22: Class reads the written sketches and gives notes. The class homework for the week – re-write the sketches based on the notes they received.
Class 4: May 29: The class reads the re-written sketches. Kevin picks 7 that will be the sketches the class works on. Kevin casts all the scenes. Every student will be in 1 or 2 of the sketches. The class starts to rehearse the sketches. Homework – memorize the sketches.
Class 5: June 5: Full rehearsal of all the sketches.
Class 6: June 12: Full run through of the show. Second run through is a dress rehearsal.
