This 1 1/2 hour introductory seminar will examine effective strategies and techniques for writing successful funding proposals from arts councils and the WFG for your next film project. Get an insider perspective on the types of grant proposal frameworks that tend to stand out from the crowd among arts funders. Learn more about arts funders and their key funding priorities.
This workshop will provide practical tips on:
- Researching potential sources of grant funding
- Laying out your vision in writing in a clear and concise manner
- Ensuring you do not forget only on logistical elements, but also focus sufficiently on your artistic vision
- Providing the key information a funder requires in order to be able to fully assess your application
Who should attend?
The proposal writing workshop is ideal for those who have to write convincing and clear proposals to secure funding and resources for their film projects through the arts funding system, including arts councils and the Winnipeg Film Group. It is primarily focused toward newer filmmakers.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Cecilia Araneda holds a BFA (hons) in playwriting from York University and a MFA in screenplay writing from UBC, where she studied under renowned television writer and producer Hart Hanson. Araneda is additionally an accomplished filmmaker, with her films having been selected for screening at venues such as the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Ann Arbor Festival, The Images Festival, Visions du Réel, and Festival de Cine de Huesca, among others. Her first novel, The Ocean, was released in 2012. Araneda has additionally served as Executive Director of the Winnipeg Film Group & Cinematheque since 2006 and is a co-founder of the WNDX festival, which was established in 2005.
