In the depths of Winnipeg winter, when everyone covers their faces in scarves and balaclavas to protect them from the cold, Iris DelaCruz meets Simon Friesen. Iris mistakes Simon for someone she knows. They eventually agree never to see each other again but the spark has been kindled. Set in Winnipeg’s Filipino community with a strong sense of place Sean has created a poignant look at love from two people who discover each other by an act of serendipity. I Propose features a standout performance from Winnipeg Filipino actress Hera Nalam. I Propose We Never See Each Other Again After Tonight is Winnipeg director Sean Garrity’s 8th feature. The creator of INerTia (awarded “Best First Feature” at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival), and several other award winning films including My Awkward Sexual Adventure, Borealis, Blood Pressure and Lucid) Garrity has created a poignant love story set in Winnipeg’s Filipino community bringing together two individuals from different cultures.

Reviews

Hera Nalam’s debut performance is riveting as the feisty Iris Dela Cruz.
- Teodoro Acuitas, Phillipine Canadian News.com
Hera Nalam who delivers a sensational breakout turn as Iris. She is the heart and soul of the film and brings a delicate mixture of vulnerability and inner strength to the role.
- Courtney Small, Cinema Axis
Nalam has big-time charm onscreen. She’s by turns funny, earthy, sexy and poignantly vulnerable.
- Randall King, Winnipeg Free Press.
