How to make a film using your smart-phone

Thur. Oct.16th, 23rd, 30th & Nov. 6th / 6:30PM - 9:30PM,

Location: Winnipeg Film Group
Registration Fee: 50 – 75
Instructor: Ben Williams

Ben Williams will instruct on how to use a smart-phone to capture and edit footage into a short film. Each student is required to bring their own smart phone (a camera ready iPhone, Android or Windows smartphone only).

Shooting: Thursday, October 16th from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.
This class will focus on using your smartphone to capture footage and come up with ideas for their film. The attendees will get hands on experience in the last hour of the class and will be expected to bring shot footage to the follow up workshop.

Editing: Thursday, October 23rd from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.
This class will focus on editing concepts and  techniques. The attendees will get hands on experience in the last hour of the class and will be expected to edit their film for the follow up workshop.

Lab: Thursday, October 30th from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.
This will be a lab day. You can spend time editing your smart-phone footage.

Screening: Thursday, November 6th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.
This will be a Q&A discussion and screening party for the attendees and their finished films.

Expect to learn

  • Smartphone camera expert tips and Must Do’s.
  • Camera techniques framing, angles and movement.
  • Adapting lenses, tripods/monopods, mics and other accessories.
  • Import, Managing and labeling footage.
  • Editing techniques and concepts (with in house software).
  • Exporting and formatting the film.

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR
Ben Williams graduated has a BA in Advertising Graphics from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Ben has been directing, shooting and editing video for over fifteen years as an independent and in top Ad agencies in NYC, Chicago and Shanghai. He can be counted among the first generation of pioneering independent digital video producers to emerge in the grass-roots social media community. In Canada, he has done video work for two art gallery installations with Canadian filmmaker Noam Gonick and Canadian artist Rebecca Belmore.

-The Winnipeg Film Group reserves the right to cancel any course where the minimum registration has not been met. Anyone registered for a course that has been cancelled is eligible for a full refund, Cancelled course fees may also be used towards any other Winnipeg Film Group training programs.
