Gimme Some Truth: About Love

Sun, Nov 10 / 1 pm
Directed by Archana Phadke
2019, India, 91 min
Marathi with English subtitles

Three generations of the Phadke family live together in their ancestral home in Mumbai. With her brother’s wedding coming up, and her own misgivings towards marriage, the filmmaker turns the camera towards her family. Rooted in the ebbs and flows of ‘unspectacular time’, the personal becomes political as power structures within the family first become visible, and eventually, unravel. Cruel and comic in equal measure, the film vignettes the vagaries of affection across generations within this family tied together by something stranger than love.

Plays with: Memoirs / Directed by Aaron Zeghers, 2019, 10 min / We live with stories… and it’s hard for us to give up on these stories. Reflections from three successive generations are dusted off and presented as remaining fragments. An attempt to archive thoughts on familial history, narrative traditions, human perception and “the story” from known and unknown sources.
