Opening night (August 28) video call Q&A with director Scott Crawford hosted by Stu Reid following the film.

Ripping back the curtain on legendary rock rag Creem Magazine’s wild and disruptive newsroom; Creem: America’s Only Rock and Roll Magazine explores the wild history of this dysfunctional band of unruly writers who weren’t all that different from the musicians they covered. Capturing the messy upheaval of the ’70s just as rock was re-inventing itself, Creem is packed with rare archival video tapes, and hilarious, savage stories with – Lester Bangs, (played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Almost Famous) Cameron Crowe, Dave Marsh, Greil Marcus, and musicians – Suzie Quatro, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, Michael Stipe, Iggy Pop, Wayne Kramer (MC5) Gene Simmons (Kiss) Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Kirk Hammet (Metallica).

Presented in partnership with Into the Music.

Please read our new safety disclaimer prior to joining us at the theatre.

Reviews

There’s a time and a place, an instance where a spontaneous combustion occurs from magic and heat, a spark that changes generations. For 20 glorious and tempestuous years, within rock n’ roll, Creem Magazine was it. If the deck on the Titanic, after the iceberg hit, was pure panic and madness, then Creem Magazine in many ways out did that disaster.
