Directed by Zack Taylor
2017, US, 93 min
Thursday, October 11 introduced by DJ Hunnicutt.
Director Zack Taylor has created a loving tribute to the invention and history of the compact cassette tape and its comeback. Cassette was filmed over three years and features great archival footage and interviews with an assortment of DJs, collectors, band members, record reps, and musicians Daniel Johnston, Allyson Baker (Dirty Ghosts), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Ian MacKaye (Fugazi), Mike Watt (The Minute Men), and Henry Rollins. Taylor tracked down the original inventor in the Netherlands, Phillips electronic engineer Lou Ottens, who expresses little nostalgia for what he now sees as an obsolete format. He also visits a factory in Springfield, Missouri – one of the few places left that still manufactures cassettes.
