The Friendly Giant was a much loved 15 minute TV series for young children that ran for decades on CBC TV (1950’s-1980’s) The series was created by a man named Bob Homme who played the giant with his friends Rusty the Rooster and Jerome the Giraffe (voiced and manipulated by puppeteer Rod Coneybeare) Homme was committed to creating a consistently warm, relaxed and peaceful viewing experience for children.The rest of the show focused on gentle, humorous chat between Friendly, Rusty and Jerome, followed by a story or a musical performance. Each episode began with a slow pan over a small medieval village where the giant would reach his hand down and arrange some chairs before a warm fireplace and say, “One chair for one of you…Look up.WAY UP…”
ANIMAL CONCERT (1960) 15 mins.
Jerome has organised an animal song concert; Angie and Fiddle Cat join them. Jerome conducts with a baton attached to the top of his head. Songs/music performed include: The Summer Holiday March; Old MacDonald Had A Farm; Oats, Peas, Beans and Barley Grows. Cast: Bob Homme, Rod Coneybeare.
BRITISH FOLK SONG (1972) 15 mins
Jerome organises a concert featuring British folk songs. Angie and Fiddle Cat join them. Songs/music performed include: Strawberry Fair; All Through The Night; Irish Medley; (unidentified) Scottish Music Cast: Bob Homme, Rod Coneybeare, Nina Keogh, Gustav Harsfai.
SYNTHESIZER CONCERT (1985) (15 MINS)
Jerome organises a concert featuring a synthesizer. Fiddle Cat and Buster Rooster join them, and Friendly plays the clarinet. Songs/music performed include: She’ll Be Coming Round The Mountain; All The Pretty Little Horses; Jack Was Every Inch A Sailor; Cast: Bob Homme, Rod Coneybeare, Nina Keogh, Bob Stutt.
