WFG members screen at imagineNATIVE!

Oct 19, 2016

Sonya Ballantyne’s 2015 short film Crash Site will screen at the 2016 imagineNATIVE Film & Media Arts Festival.

imagineNATIVE, the world’s largest presenter of Indigenous screen content runs October 19-23 in Toronto.

Sonya Ballantyne is an emerging filmmaker from Grand Rapids First Nation. She has a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on film from the University of Winnipeg and was the recipient of the RBC Emerging Filmmakers Competition in 2014. Her work focuses on Aboriginal women and girls in non-traditional genres and presenting them as the heroines they are.

Crash Site, written and directed by Sonya Ballantyne, is a 13 minute narrative drama. The film is in the Distribution Collection at the Winnipeg Film Group.
Synopsis: After her parents’ death, Kaley must move from the reserve to the city to live with her older sister. After an argument, Kaley runs away to return home. During her journey, she meets a superhero who tells her how to hone her own powers.

Also screening at the festival are films by WFG members Madison Thomas (Exposed Nerves) and Cody Halcrow (Remains, Human).

Congratulations to all filmmakers and their casts and crews!
