Dames

By Maureen Devanik Butterfield | 00:08:53 | Comedy, Narrative-Fiction | 01/09/1996

Slick-as-grease Dames captures all of the energy and sass of classic film noir. You can smell the smoke in its seamy 1940s nightclub, the alcohol on the guys, and the perfume on its sex-drenched dames. But instead of dealing out the genre's dubious fate for women brimming with style and sexuality, its femme fatale Roxie…

Archangel

By Guy Maddin | 01:23:00 | Drama, Experimental | 01/01/1990

Archangel is: a tragedy of the Great war; a dreamlike world of long ago lost love; a Goya painting etched in frost. Nestled beneath a white, fluffy blanket of forgetfulness is Archangel, a crystalline city of spires and onion domes. There is a Canadian soldier, a Belgian aviator and a Russian nurse, their minds clouded…

I am the Captain of this Ship

By Roger D. Wilson (Cooper) | 00:05:57 | Documentary, Experimental | 1/01/18

Numbness, dissociation, and isolation were the only survival techniques he knew and the forest and his own mind became his stage and his safeguard.

Clamber

By Susan Turner | 00:03:26 | Animation, Experimental | 20/12/2016

The noise of the street, road construction, the screeching and clashing of large metal machinery gradually break down the artist’s psychic self-defense. She begins to consider isolation, loneliness, fear, and the feelings of being invisible. It becomes impossible for her to keep the external world out. A psychic migraine.

Trembling Like a Leaf in the Wind

By Susan Turner | 00:04:24 | Animation, Experimental | 20/12/2016

Using footage and audio of the last few months of her mother’s life (piano playing, coughing, breathing) and intertwining them with her own abstract images, the artist takes the viewer through her poetic narration of her mother’s last, quiet moments.
