“And a current runs through me…” is a shorts program presented by the WFG Distribution Department in recognition of National Indigenous People’s Day.
Connected through their relationship to transmission, the six short films featured in the program address transmission through contexts such as the digital transference of archival footage to the transgenerational effects of colonial genocide while expanding upon the idea of what a body might carry – transgressively, tenderly, and transformatively.
The films included in the program are IKWÉ by Caroline Monnet, Nosism by Sonya Ballantyne, Maiden Indian by The Ephemerals, Moccasin Stories by Charlene Moore, Métis Femme Bodies by Chanelle Lajoie, and Caribou in the Archive by Jennifer Dysart and the program is curated by Jillian Groening, WFG Distribution Manager, and Mahlet Cuff, WFG Distribution Coordinator.
An excerpt of the curatorial text states:
“Each film in “And a current runs through me…” is a gift which resonates beyond the parameters of the screen. From the crooks of the body to the seams of a moccasin, this series addresses the ceaseless transtemporal echoes which continue through generations.”
We thank the artists for being willing to share their works on VUCAVU.com.
The program is available to watch for free on VUCAVU from June 20th through 29th.
