March 21st screening introduced by Tina Keeper.
Tina Keeper, Norway House Cree Nation, is a producer and actor. She is best known for her work on the hit television series ‘North of 60′, and for serving as a Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Churchill. Tina was deeply moved and inspired by the experience of working with renowned actor Tantoo Cardinal who was masterful in this performance, and with Anishinabe director Darlene Naponse, who wrote, directed and produced Falls Around Her.
Mary (played by legendary Cree and Métis actor Tantoo Cardinal in her first leading role), a world-famous Anishinaabe musician in her sixties, has had enough. Fleeing the hectic pace of touring, her abusive manager and even the love of her fans, she seeks refuge on her reserve in Northern Ontario. Her sister Betty (Tina Keeper) urges her to reconnect with family and old friends. But neither nature’s serenity nor the care she receives from her family can completely erase the torments of the outside world.
