Saturday, October 28th from 12pm – 4pm @ WFG Cinematheque

The editor behind critically acclaimed films such as Enemy (2013), James White (2015) and Swiss Army Man (2016) is coming to the WFG for an in-depth Master Class!

The class will begin with a screening of James White (2015). Directed by Josh Mond and edited by Matthew Hannam, the film tells the tale of a young New Yorker who struggles to control his reckless behavior as his mother battles cancer. James White (2015) is a critically acclaimed independent feature film that has received a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as has premiered at festivals such as Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival and AFI Film Festival. The screening will be followed by an open format workshop led by Matthew Hannam on editing low budget feature films. The class will cover the basics, the theory, the concrete and the vague. Matthew Hannam will bring a few mini case studies from his work and the class will talk about the endlessly frustrating and essential act of editing films.

Matthew Hannam is a film and television editor from Winnipeg currently based in Toronto and Los Angeles. He has been editing movies and television for the past 12 years. He has worked with Bruce McDonald, Don McKellar, Denis Villeneuve and Borderline Films. Recent film and TV work includes Netflix’s THE OA, SWISS ARMY MAN and IT COMES AT NIGHT. He is currently finishing up Paul Dano’s directorial debut WILDLIFE.
