Are you a short filmmaker who is ready to take the plunge into feature filmmaking? Do you have a short film concept that you believe can work as a solid feature film? Do you want to find out how to put together the right package in order to ensure that your feature film has a great shot of getting funding? This workshop, taught by feature filmmaker Mark Ennis, will help develop your short film concept into a feature-length screenplay.
In this 1 part class you will:
- Find the legs of your story – examine your short film concept’s inciting incident and degree of conflict to determine its viability as a feature film
- Develop a thematic throughline to carry your concept through a 3 act screenplay structure.
- Dive into character – Are your central protagonist and antagonist compelling enough to carry a feature?
- Examine short films that were developed into successful feature films
About the instructor:
Mark’s professional experience includes working for the federal government as a news producer. He also worked in research and production on the PBS pilot, Planet Forward. His creative endeavors have been recognized by Telefilm’s Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program where his project was selected from a nationwide pool of applicants for development funding.
In 2014, he was also one of three recipients in Canada to receive Telefilm’s Aboriginal Microbudget Production Grant, a program designed to cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers from diverse backgrounds.
Most recently, Mark served as the Director of Santa Fe University of Art and Design’s Online Film Program where he also taught directing and screenwriting classes. He is currently working on a new screenplay in development with Telefilm. His short film Red Clay, was the basis for his feature film Road of Iniquity, which is currently being submitted to film festivals.
His feature film, Road of Iniquity, premiered at Cine Las Americas Festival in Austin, TX and will play at Gimli Film Festival , you can see the trailer below:
