Tales from the Neighbourhood: New and Used: Winnipeg and Bayline

Thu, May 18 / 7 pm
Directed by James Mierau
2016, Canada, 46 min

Over the past several years MTS Stories From Home has sparked the creation of hundreds of hours of new intensely local TV content in Manitoba. This body of work, unique in vision and vast in scope has supported local filmmakers as they tell stories that may not have otherwise been produced.

Introduced by director Jamie Mierau and producer Dave Kornas

The record stores once lining North Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba were the epicenter of cultural meeting places. “New and Used: Winnipeg” is a showcase of those places from the past, what they meant to people and what this community looks like today. Featuring a who’s who from Winnipeg’s music community and record store scene – both past and present– including historian John Einarson, musician Jason Tait, (Weakerthans) Greg Tonn (Into The Music) Don Unrau (Pyramid Records) Andy Mellen ( Autumn Stone) Jeff Bishop ( Sound Exchange) and Dj Hunnicut, co-founder of the hip hop label Peanuts and Corn Records and the Good Will Social Club. New and Used is a story of ritual, passion and culture.
