Directed By Thorsten Schütte
2016, Germany, 93 min

A fabulous documentary about the legendary Frank Zappa – leader of the Mothers of Invention, self-taught composer, musician, bandleader, producer and independent thinker. A champion of artists’ rights, Zappa battled censorship issues in the U.S. when Tipper Gore launched her campaign to demand the labeling of records deemed obscene. The film features unforgettable interviews and performances from across three decades found in the obscure vaults of TV stations around the world.

Friday Night Introduced By Diana McIntosh (from Groundswell) Described on Bravo TV News as a national treasure, Diana McIntosh has a very active career as a distinctive, original, witty, and innovative composer/pianist/performance artist. A member of the Artistic Directorate of Groundswell she will say some words on behalf of their 25th Anniversary.

Saturday Night Screening Introduced by Matthew Patton / Winnipeg Composer and WSO New Music Fest curator Matthew Patton has collaborated with artists such as film director Guy Maddin and film director Jim Jarmusch. He once spoke with Frank’s wife Gail Zappa about some projects and was in touch with his children including Ahmet who runs the Zappa Trust. Reviews

A wealth of rarely seen footage featuring this American original...a kindred spirit of Igor Stravinsky, a genre-bending musical sophisticate, a social subversive who lobbed lyrics like Molotov cocktails, a brilliant avant-gardist whose heart belonged to Dada. -Austin Chronicle
