Making movies with your smartphone (at the Gimli Film Festival)

Making movies with your smartphone (at the Gimli Film Festival)

Sat Jul 26 (12 PM to 3 PM)

Location: Lakeview North, Lakeview Resort and Conference Centre
Registration Fee: Free
Instructor: Ben Williams

Always got your phone in your hand? Head out to Gimli to learn the art of ‘phone-ography’ with Ben Williams, our Production Centre Director!

The Winnipeg Film Group partners with the Gimli Film Festival to show you how to use a smartphone to capture video and then edit it into a short movie using free online software. This interactive workshop will show ways to enhance your movie by applying a variety of filmmaking techniques and adapting accessories such as tripod, microphones, lights and lenses using the Beastgrip universal rig system.

Participants are required to bring their own smartphone (camera-ready iPhone, Android or Windows smartphones only).

Please note this is a workshop for the non filmmaker – NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED! We will start from the very beginning in terms of covering off the very basics of shooting techniques and freeware editing software available for use by anyone within a PC, MAC or Linux browser!

Registration is available through the Gimli Film Festival only – call 204-642-8846 to reserve your spot!

our location

We’re located in the heart of Winnipeg's historic Exchange District in the Artspace building. We are across the street from Old Market Square at the corner of Arthur Street and Bannatyne - one block west of Main.

The Winnipeg Film Group is located on Treaty 1 Territory and on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene Peoples and in the homeland of the Métis Nation. We offer our respect and gratitude to the traditional caretakers of this land.
