Do you have an idea you feel would make a good film? In this two-evening seminar, you will look at finding the intellectual and emotional heart of your story, its point of view, and the visual action line to start outlining a script in three-act film structure. On the first evening, each participant can work on an idea for a feature film, a short, or a TV pilot, using handouts provided by the instructor. On the second evening, if they want to, participants can “pitch” their idea for feedback, and we’ll look in depth at the business of screenwriting, including the best screenplay to enter and the best festivals to attend.
About the instructor:
Melva McLean has B.A. in English and a M.A. Publishing. She edits novels, short fiction, screenplays, stage plays, as well as non-fiction. She has taught publishing, editing and screenwriting in Winnipeg and in Vancouver.
Her screenplays and short films have won several awards. Her adaptation of a short story by Emily Givner and directed by BJ Verot won a NSI Drama Prize and was made into a 10-minute short which was screened at Cannes.
