The event is as easy as pie:
It’s that time of year again – the sign up for the annual WNDX One Take Super 8 Event is upon us!
In just a few short years, this event became one of the most important incubators for new works in Manitoba. Films completed for prior editions of the Winnipeg event have gone on to be selected for screening at Cannes, Hot Docs, The Images Festival, Antimatter, the Artifact Film Festival, the Festival dé Cinemas Différents in Paris, among many more.
In recent years the OTS8 event has seen a tremendous boost in popularity, with more and more folks eager to get involved. For the 2021 OTS8, sign-ups will be open for a two week period, and after this period is closed, a lottery will be held to determine which filmmakers will receive the 30 highly coveted spots! Running our sign-up this way will also help us to ensure that the one-take represents more gender parity, as at least half of our spots will be reserved for female-identifying or non-binary filmmakers. We understand that this method is still imperfect but are excited at structuring the event in a different way than we have in the past, and look forward to seeing how this experiment in sign-up goes.
The participation fee ($65 for colour film / $50 for Black & White film) is used to cover the material costs associated with participation: film stock, processing, shipping and digital transfer. Films are then shot in one take (no cuts, no splices – the only type of editing that is allowed is in-camera work) and filmmakers view their works for the first time at the event final screening, alongside the audience. If this cost is a barrier to participation, applicants can send an email to info@wndx.org regarding a subsidy.
No previous filmmaking experience is required!
SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED. Open only to Manitoba residents.
