Alain Delannoy is one of Winnipeg’s finest animators. Currently teaching a multimedia course at the Université de Saint-Boniface he has created an excellent body of hand crafted animated works over the last 17 years. They reveal a creative mind which is restless, philosophical and searching.
The program begins with some rare student work from the 1990s featuring Jack in the Box and Blue Noise which reflect his restless urge to create. With a deepening artistic maturity, Monument is the story of a boy who embarks on a journey which leads to his own identity and destiny. It was produced over a span of five years with 4,000 hand crafted drawings. Created in 35mm, the film fills the screen with wonder. His most recent work, Fraction is a beautifully animated story of an elderly artist who, caught in a battle of time struggles to complete his body of work. This special retrospective chronicles his unique development as an artist.

Shuttle is the poetic tale of a boy who is captivated by the idea of going into space. Through his imagination, he rides the wings of the shuttle, but as the story continues, he is awakened to his role and identity within the universe.

Monument, 2006, 12 min
A boy embarks on an odyssey in what appears to be a bleak and destitute landscape. It is, however,the very journey that leads him to discover not only the hidden meaning of his environment but also his own identity and ultimately, his very destiny.Monument is a hand drawn animated film inspired by thematic elements found in the filmmaker’s French Canadian heritage. Produced over five years, four thousand handcrafted drawings were created to compose and complete this rare 35mm film.
