Animator, Andy Smetanka (My Winnipeg) will visit the WFG in February to lead a master class on silhouette animation.
This hands-on workshop will consist of first, building a DIY light table in studio. Once completed, with a digital camera mounted to it, a silhouette- and backdrop-cutting workshop will ensue with an eye toward participants making the elements of their own simple animation to film, creating their own cadavre-exquis type movie collaboration, or simply combining cut-out pieces to forge a group narrative.
For more information on workshops, please contact the Training & Community Programs Coordinator at 925-3450 or darcy@winnipegfilmgroup.com
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Andy Smetanka has lived in Minnesota, Montana, Finland and Sweden for a total of 40 years. Most recently, his super 8 silhouette animation has appeared in music videos for the Decemberists and in several feature films, including newer movies by his cinematic mentor, Guy Maddin.
