Create a Super 8MM film in one month.
Participants will spend one month learning the ins and outs of creating a Super 8MM film from start to finish. The first class will guide you through the aspects of operating a Super 8mm camera, with focus on getting the best exposure and taking advantage of the unique features of the Super 8mm format. Learn basic elements of camera theory and the fundamentals of shooting, directing and in-camera editing to create your project. The second class will lead participants through the practices of handprocessing in the darkroom.
This workshop will conclude with a screening at the WFG Black Lodge on Sunday, September 11, 2011.

Camera: Super 8MM camera and one light w/stand rental (either two weekdays or one weekend)

Film: 1 roll of Tri-X (B&W) Super 8MM film

Enrollment limited to 8 participants
All equipment credits must be used by Friday, September 30, 2011. Participants must book there editing time during WFG office hours (Mon-Fri 10am-5:30pm).

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Stephan Recksiedler has created well over a dozen shorts and features as a Cinematographer since joining the WFG in 1994. As the Camera Coordinator of PS and now Midcan Production Services, Stephan is always in the know of the latest digital cinema technologies. However, it is the fundamentals of exposing and composing film that forms his cinematic foundation and indeed the foundation of all cinematography.
Coral Aiken is a producer, director and choreographer from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her post-secondary background in Modern Dance and Ballet inspired a filmmaking practice of corporeal poetics, and multi-channel modes of performance. In her films, Aiken explores themes of nostalgia and memory, with surreal elements rooting her work in the tradition of Magical Realism. Aiken’s work has been supported by the Manitoba Council for the Arts, Winnipeg Film Group, Manitoba Film and Music, and Bravo!FACT. She has screened at festivals including the Cannes International Film Festival (Cinefondation Official Selection), European Media Art Festival, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, New York Queer Experimental Film Festival, Olympia Film Festival.
