Mar 28, 2023

Congratulations to the

2023 MOSAIC Recipient, Angeline Javier

We are excited to announce that Angeline Javier received the 2023 MOSAIC Film Fund.

Angeline Javier is a Filipino-Canadian photographer and filmmaker based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her passion for visual media began as a child, filming and editing home videos with her sisters. In 2022, she graduated from the Sisler CREATE program and decided to pursue a career in film. Angeline continued her studies at the Red River College Polytechnic in Digital Film and Media Production. As an emerging artist, she is dedicated to telling stories that shed light on underrepresented voices and issues.

Angeline Javier was awarded $10,000 of funding for her new untitled short film. This award includes:

  • $2,000 to support living expenses over a 6 month production period
  • $3,500 in cash to be used for production and post-production
  • $2,000 in services from the Winnipeg Film Group (workshops/training, equipment, cameras, studio rental, etc.)
  • 1 experienced woman filmmaker as project mentor for one-on-one mentorship
  • A screening of their finished project at the Cinematheque and online on Cinematheque at Home
  • *Up to $1,000 for access support such as child care (if applying as a primary caregiver), ASL interpretation, etc.

Angeline’s film is a short narrative which tells the story of the complex relationship between a mother and daughter. The film is inspired by personal experience and tells the story of difficulties for immigrants coming to a new country.

The peer selection committee was comprised of filmmakers: Shira Newman and Fawnda Neckoway, both of whom were previous recipients of WFG Funds. The selection committee was chaired by WFG Production Programs Manager, Dylan Baillie.

A total of 10 submissions were received for this cycle of the award.
